Sam Kendricks has begun his 2019 season with two competitions and two wins! His mark of 5.84m/19’1.75” was enough to beat the field at the Meeting de Paris on January 27 and his mark of 5.86m/19’2.75” captured the victory at ISTAF Indoor in Berlin, Germany on February 1.
2011 World Champion Pawel Wojciechowski has had a great early season as well with a clearance of 5.76m/18’10.5” on February 1 at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin and a big clearance of 5.80m/19’0.25” on February 4 at the Orlen Cup in Poland. Pawel had some close misses at a world lead of 5.90m/19’5".25” as well.
While Sam and Pawel are cruising near the top of the leaderboard, Valentin Lavillenie is making a strong comeback from an injury dating back to the spring of 2018. Valentin competed for the first time in 8 months on February 2 and jumped a bar of 5.30m/17’5.25” from only 12 steps!
Emily Grove has also had a busy season so far competing in four competitions with her best mark being 4.35m/14’3.25” in January down in Key West, FL.
